Recently, I was invited to offer a mindfulness presentation for a group of lawyers at a retreat. I typically try to minimize my time away and, so I booked a short trip for feeling relex. Just 24 hours. I had the option of spending an extra day but unfortunetly declined.
Once I arrived, I immediately regretted my decision and starts enjoying. The resort was spectacular. The weather was awsome. I realized there wouldn't be much time to enjoy the many amenities. I really wanted an afternoon and evening of sitting by the pool, soaking in the sun and enjoying a massage at the spa. I found myself repeatedly saying, " yeah! I should've spent an extra day!"
Then I recognized the negative thought for what it was—clinging.
Using Mantra Practice To Let Go Of Negative Thought Loops
I returned to a practice that I'm familiar with. I gently encouraged my mind to let go of this looping thought by repeating the mantra and, "Let go."
Each time my feelings and mind went into the "thought loop" of frustration and regret, I redirected the attention to the mantra. Eventually, I let go of the negative thought and was able to enjoy my stay.
We all fall into negative thought loops. And perhaps one of the most powerful benefit of a regular meditation practice it is, first, recognizing it and, second, gently shifting the mind away from it and go positive.
